The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
We offer programs year round. We have indoor and outdoor programs. So whatever your age or skill level, Special Olympics Medina has something for you. Many athletes start in one sport, then go on to try others.
Through sports, our athletes are seeing themselves for their abilities, not disabilities. Their world is opened with acceptance and understanding. They become confident and empowered by their accomplishments. They also make new friends, as part of the most inclusive community on the planet—a global community that is growing every day.
Our partners play an important role in the success of the Special Olympics Medina County. We thank you and our athletes and families thank you.
We are a therapeutic horse riding for individuals with disabilities. Our instructors are certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH). They utilize horses to help enhance participants riding skills, motor control, postural control, balance, teamwork, and independence.
Our community resource is responsible for connecting, coordinating and funding services for individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities. We help with everything from early intervention and education opportunities for children to employment and community inclusive living for adults.
Our council, #4847 works with the Brunswick community. We are part of the Knights of Columbus global organization of practicing Catholic men and their families that has existed since 1881. We consist of a large group of men who share a common bond of commitment to our families, our community, our church, our faith, and each other.
Miracle League program provides an opportunity for individuals with mental and/or physical challenges to play the great game of baseball! We have an artificial turf surface which is friendly to both wheelchairs and bouncing baseballs and a fully accessible playground.
