Special Olympics Orrville Boys and Girls Club Event

I want to personally invite you and others from the Medina County Special Olympics to attend this event that is happening at the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club on August 11th from 1:30p-5:30p. I think it would be amazing to have support from athletes, families and students in the area, witnessing this event first-hand, but also jumping in and playing alongside not only club kids, but local Special Olympic Athletes from various counties surrounding Wayne County. We are trying to show not only the students and staff at this Boys and Girls Club, but others around the state what is means to be inclusive and unified! From what I’ve been hearing, students with IDD tend to keep to themselves or feel separated, since their fellow staff and classmates don’t know how to interact with them on a daily basis. We are trying to break that habit and show clubs they can be inclusive too!

We are having local law enforcement officers attending this event to provide a “touch a truck” experience and possibly providing a fitness test for the kids to go through as well. Also, our friends and partners from the Cleveland Cavaliers – Jr. Cavs Academy Coaches are attending to provide a mini skills session – to show what they do with our schools who are involved in our programming currently. Finally, we will have two kickball games going on the field closest to the club and a station for our little ones, introducing our Young Athletes programming as well.

ATHLETES: We want to show these students what it means to play “UNIFIED” and “INCLUDE” everyone, no matter their disability. This is why we are calling on our BEST athletes to come out and partake in a day of fun with our friends from the Cleveland Cavaliers – Jr. Cavs Academy Coaches, our LETR (Law Enforcement Officers) AND our team from Special Olympics Ohio! We will be having two kick ball games happening, basketball skills, fitness tests, young athlete/yoga stations AND a sensory arts and craft area as well!
